Website Costs in Bangladesh: Cheap, but Mind the Catch

// 8 MIN READ

Bangladesh is one of the world's largest hubs for web development, and that fact cuts both ways: prices are among the lowest anywhere on the planet, and quality swings wildly from excellent to unusable. Here are honest ranges in Taka — and the catch nobody mentions.

// THE 30-SECOND VERSION
  • Basic / brochure site: roughly Tk 15,000–50,000 (about $150–450).
  • Business website: roughly Tk 50,000–2,00,000 (about $450–1,800).
  • Custom / e-commerce: Tk 2,00,000 and up (about $1,800+).
  • The catch: the cheapest quote often means a locked template you don't own.

1. The Honest Taka Ranges

A simple brochure site from a freelancer typically lands between Tk 15,000 and Tk 50,000. A properly built business website with custom design usually runs Tk 50,000 to Tk 2,00,000. Anything with online payments, inventory or custom features starts around Tk 2,00,000 and climbs. International clients are often quoted in US dollars instead, which is why the same work can look priced very differently.

2. Why Prices Are So Low Here

It's simple economics: a massive pool of skilled developers, a lower cost of living, and intense competition push prices down. That's a genuine advantage — you can get strong value. But "cheap" and "good" are not the same thing, and the gap between a Tk 5,000 site and a Tk 50,000 site is usually enormous.

THE VALUE TRAP"In a market this competitive, anyone can quote a low number. The real cost shows up later — in a slow site, no SEO, no mobile support, and no one answering your messages after launch."

3. The Real Risk: You Get What You Brief

Template Lock-InOWNERSHIP

Many cheap sites are locked templates on hosting you don't control. Always confirm you own the code, domain and hosting.

No SEO FoundationVISIBILITY

A beautiful site nobody can find is worthless. Cheap builds often skip the on-page SEO that lets Google rank you.

Mobile AfterthoughtQUALITY

Most of your visitors are on phones. Confirm the site is built mobile-first and loads fast on mobile data.

Post-Launch GhostingSUPPORT

The cheapest providers often vanish after payment. Agree support and edits in writing before you start.

⚠ BRIEF CLEARLY

In Bangladesh, a vague brief gets you a vague website. Spell out pages, features, who writes the content, and who owns everything. Clarity up front is the single best protection against a cheap result.

4. What to Ask Before You Pay

Do I own the code, domain and hosting outright?
Is it mobile-first and fast on mobile data?
Is basic SEO and a sitemap included?
Can my team edit content without paying again?
What's the support and cost after launch?
FAQs
Should I pay in Taka or US dollars?
Local projects are usually quoted in Taka; international agencies and freelancers often quote in USD. Either is fine — just make sure scope and ownership are crystal clear in writing.
Is a very cheap website ever worth it?
For a brand-new venture that just needs a simple presence fast, yes — as long as you own it and know its limits. For anything you'll rely on to win customers, invest a little more.
Why do quotes vary by 10x for the same site?
Because they aren't the same site. One may be a stock template; another includes custom design, mobile optimisation, SEO and support. Compare scope, not just the number.
